Second All-Congregation Hub Event

This will be held here at BU School of Theology, 10am-4pm. We ask that you reserve that time on your calendar, as we hope for full team participation. The February Hub event will include discussion of the grant application process. 

February 2 Schedule

9:30 - 10:00am  --  Check in and coffee and refreshments available 

10:00 - 10:30am -- Welcome and introduction to the day 

10:30 - 12:15pm --  Workshop with Dr. Courtney Goto: "What is the 'Angel' of Your Congregation?"

Description:  If you were to personify the character and vocational identity of your congregation, what would this “angel” look like and why?  In this session, you’ll have an opportunity to discern this question in light of the work of bible scholar Walter Wink.  You’ll be invited to create a mixed media sculpture that portrays the angel of your congregation. Please read the two brief attached articles in advance of Saturday. 

12:15 - 1:00pm -- Lunch 

1:00 - 2:15pm  -- Workshop with Dr. Jonathan Calvillo: "Understanding Congregational Contexts: Tools for Analyzing Place and Community"

Description: As congregational life is shaped by a variety of contextual factors, this workshop will introduce congregational leaders to various tools and perspectives helpful for assessing the opportunities present within congregational contexts. We will consider how demographic, historical, cultural, and organizational dynamics provide a variety of resources for the sustainability of congregational life. We will be referencing the Studying Congregations website

2:15 - 2:30pm -- Coffee break

2:30 - 3:00pm -- Grant application introduction and review next Hub events  

3:00 - 3:20pm -- Congregational team breakouts for brief brainstorming and gathering questions about grant applications

3:20 - 3:50pm -- Large group questions and discussion

3:50 - 4:00pm -- Closing prayer and sending out
